September 16, 2024

Bob Scott, Editor at Progressive Accountant, is retiring on September 30, 2024, after 33 years of covering mid-market ERP. His journey began on July 29, 1991, as the tech editor at Accounting Today. Over the years, Bob held several editorial positions, including a 12-year tenure as editor of Accounting Technology and ERP Global Insights (formerly known as Bob Scott’s Insights). Bob consistently had the inside scoop on the latest mid-market ERP news, and you could always find him at nearly every industry conference.

We interviewed Bob on Episode 34 of Enterprise Software Podcast and he shared these industry insights:

  • Building Networks: Bob attributes his journalistic success to maintaining strong industry relationships, attending conferences, and being a trusted source of information.
  • Challenges in Journalism: Transitioning from print to digital has brought challenges, especially in persuading readers to pay for content.
  • ERP Market Trends: While cloud-based ERP systems are growing, Bob sees the shift to subscription-based software sales as more significant in the short term.
  • Importance of Conferences: Conferences are key to developing industry contacts and understanding trends.
